Occurrence of Persistent Organochlorine Pollutants in Sediments from Lake Piediluco, Italy

چکیده

In surficial sediments of Lake Piediluco, a small, riverine, regulated and heavily modified water body in the Central Italian Apennines, contamination by persistent organochlorine pollutants (POPs) was assessed. During spring autumn, six representative points were investigated. Reflecting substantial zonation pollution within this aquatic ecosystem, concentrations found to vary from site site. OCPs, particularly DDT its metabolites DDE DDD, detected at varying frequencies 0.301 8.185 ng/g d.w., whilst total PCBs (Σ50 congeners) 0.570 10.206 d.w. Although both PCB congener-specific homolog patterns suggest prevalent presence Aroclors 1254 1260, more limited likely contribution 1248 technical mixture is not be excluded. western area lake, affected daily continuous basin remixing for hydroelectricity production, major seasonal differences OCP found. Conversely, eastern typified low fluctuation small variation among sites. Regardless either collection or seasonality, polychlorinated-p-dioxin furan (PCDD/Fs) below 8.3 pg WHO-TEQ/g. contrast present study, POP PCBs, PCDD/Fs some DDT-derived has been investigated so far. Nevertheless, are typical low-polluted pristine lakes consistently lower than those other greater size depth (e.g., Como, Garda Maggiore). The physical chemical properties analytes consistent with probable diffuse point source originating catchment area, rather atmospheric depositions regional long-range transports. Finally, according international sediment quality guidelines (SQGs), Piediluco pose risk sediment-dwelling organisms and, generally, wildlife such ecosystems.

Organochlorine pesticide residues in sediments from the Uganda side of Lake Victoria.

Organochlorine (OC) residues were analysed in 117 sediment samples collected from four bays of the Uganda side of Lake Victoria. The sediments were collected with a corer at a depth of 0-20 cm, and extracted for OC residues using a solid dispersion method. The extracts were cleaned using gel permeation chromatography and analysed for pesticide residues using a gas chromatograph (GC) equipped wi...

Determination of Organochlorine Pesticide Residues in Water, Sediments and Fish from Lake Parishan, Iran

In this study, the levels of organochlorine (OC) pesticide residues in Lake Parishan have been investigated using water, sediment and fish (Barbus brachycephalus caspius) samples as a case study to find out the extent of pesticide contamination and accumulation in the lake. Six OC pesticides namely DDT, DDE, Lindane, Endosulfan, Heptachlor and Chlordane were analyzed in four sites at four seaso...

Accumulation and distribution of persistent organochlorine pesticides and their contamination of surface water and sediments of the Sabarmati River, India

Pesticides are chemical substances used to control pests in an effort to increase crop production and quality, and food storage. The levels of pesticides in different environmental compartments, such as water, soil, agricultural foods, and products of animal origin, have become a relevant issue. In this study, the levels of pesticide residues in Sabarmati River of Gujarat, India, have been inve...
